MIND ANOTHER
WHAT WE OFFFER
LONG TERM THERAPY
Resolving our problems takes time. That's why our group therapy programs consist of weekly sessions for 1-2 years, allowing for a deep exploration of how we understand ourselves and relate to those around us.
PROCESS-ORIENTED
Our programs focus on the group process -- members' thoughts, feelings, and reactions to their life problems and to one another. Without any formal agendas, we focus on relationships within the group, articulating emotions as they arise and exploring our mental states and those of others.
CHANGE FROM WITHIN
The aim of our programs is to help you develop a clear and strong sense of self, and to allow you to relate to others in a way that is healthy, flexible, and functional. Rather than focusing on changing your circumstances -- for example, helping you solve a certain life problem -- we facilitate change from inside, allowing you to work toward your own goals with greater clarity, kindness, and stability.
HOW TO JOIN
We are a specialist medical service in psychiatry, requiring a referral from a physician -- typically your family doctor or another psychiatrists. See our referral form here.
WHO WE SERVE
Our group therapy programs are designed for patients from BC with mild-moderate problems in how they relate to and understand themselves and others, with associated difficulties in work, school, and social roles. This can include symptoms like a negative sense of self, rapidly shifting views of others, and frequent mood swings. Diagnoses we treat include borderline personality disorder (BPD), trauma, depression, and anxiety.
OUR THERAPY MODALITIES
Our practice utilizes evidence-based psychodynamic psychotherapies that are effective in treating borderline personality disorder (BPD) as well as a number of other common mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma. Both MBT and TFP have been proven in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to be effective treatments. We are part of a growing movement toward adapting these therapies to the group context in order to enhance interpersonal learning and leverage the unique advantages of group therapy.

SPECIAL POPULATIONS
INDIGENOUS
Recognizing the adverse effects of colonization, intergenerational trauma, and residential schools in particular on the health of indigenous peoples in Canada, we are committed to providing culturally safe opportunities to indigenous patients who wish to pursue group psychotherapy.
IMMIGRANTS & MINORITIES
Immigrants, refugees, visual and sexual minorities, and other marginalized groups face disadvantages and stresses that impact their mental health and quality of life. In light of these challenges, Mind Another has a special interest in offering a safe space for group psychotherapy to patients who identify as minorities.
PARENTS
Raising children is one of the most stressful challenges in life. And dealing with kids can bring up powerful feelings and ways of relating we didn't expect. Exploring your interpersonal difficulties as a parent can benefit you as well as your children. We at Mind Another have a strong interest in supporting parents as they navigate the challenges of this demanding role.

REQUIREMENTS
FOR THERAPY
HAVE A FAMILY DOCTOR
As a group therapy practice, we operate on a shared-care model. This means patients must have a family doctor (or another psychiatrist) who will be responsible for their individual needs such as prescribing medications and managing crises. We cannot accept unattached patients into our programs, as we don't have capacity to manage patients one-on-one. Details here.

2
COMMIT
Even more so than in individual therapy, regular attendance over the long term is necessary in order for the group to function well. Healing and change happens through the group-as-a-whole, and it happens less if you are not there -- for you and for other members. We ask patients to commit to 6 months, and not to miss more than 4 sessions in that time. Click here for our full attendance policy.
3
ENGAGE
The group itself is the engine of change. In order for it to work best, we must make an effort to explore our own difficulties and those of others in a thoughtful way, and to invest emotionally in the group so that it becomes a safe and cohesive space for learning.
